The T360 Leadership Assessment (T360®) is a structured method of gathering information about performance in relation to globally accepted leadership competencies. It has been specifically designed for use in 360 degree leadership feedback and coaching programs. The questionnaire was developed by Dr Gary C. Townsend of Skillworx Africa (Pty) Ltd.
The respondents to the questionnaire include the participant (the person being rated), their manager, peers, direct reports, and clients. The comprehensive information gathered from this process assist participants in identifying areas of strength and development needs and provide a useful starting point for performance and development discussions.
The questionnaire is relevant for all tiers of management seeking feedback about their performance, but more specifically for executive level leaders who need to track their progress and plan their development against either internal or external benchmarks. The feedback is also useful to assist them to strengthen performance within their current roles.
Why build leadership capability
The development of leadership is a continuous process as an individual gain’s experiences, assumes greater levels of responsibility, and faces a growing complexity of organisational problem solving demands. The T360® feedback assessment assists in this development through two fundamental objectives:
Firstly, at the individual level, the process will provide unique data perspectives of the leader’s ability as viewed by their direct manager/s, peers, direct reports, clients, as well as self-examination. These data are subsequently used to drive the design of a Personal Development Plan to address areas of opportunity that surfaces through this assessment.
Secondly, to improve overall organisational performance. As an organisational leader, the development of a leader’s ability to work, manage, and lead is inextricably bound to the improvement of performance and attitudes of all the people impacted by this relationship. Therefore, the entire organisation stands to benefit when any leader embraces this level of ongoing development.
Assessment scales
Participants undertaking the 75-item T360® assessment receive a detailed report containing the following fifteen global leadership facets namely,
Coaching, Communication, Creativity & Innovation, Diversity, Empowerment, Initiative & Risk-Taking, Mentoring, Motivating, Personal Integrity, Planning & Organising, Problem-Solving & Decision Making, Quality Results, Teamwork, Technical Competency, and Vision.
These represent the most common facets exhibited by successful leaders in Organisations and constitute a range of typical behaviours quantifying each facet.
Benefits for the individual
The insights gained from participating in the T360® process can assist the participant to pursue their career, management, and individual development strategy. Participants undertaking the T360® assessment process receive a comprehensive feedback report containing:
- an analysis by the participant and their manager of the critical capabilities required in the current role, providing the opportunity to explore differences and clarify expectations;
